Cancelled Ticket because of my Name
On July 20th both me and my father traveled to SLC for my sister's graduation. (we both have the same name).During that time, i was completely broke and only had $400 to my name in credit. My father, however, saw that it was absolutely necessary that I go and offered to gift the ticket to me. Which I accepted.
I was getting ready to board when my father and me both noticed the same seat number on both of our tickets. We went to the information counter and were immediately told that my ticket had been refunded because the system saw the same name and considered the second ticket a duplicate. I was very understanding of the situation and kindly asked for it to be remedied.
For that to happen, however, the attendant needed 2 hours to find a last minute flight since the plane that I was supposed to leave on was already fully booked. My father left since we needed to take advantage of the one ticket that we had and I was left to wait the rest of the time.
Eventually, the attendant found a flight that would leave me at my destination only a half hour later than when my father would arrive. I accepted the ticket and had to re-pay for it on the spot and use the $300 of the credit that I had to book my flight before it got full again. Afterwards, I had to run over to the other side of the airport to get to the right gate. (they had to book me with a different airline since they didn't have anything)
Once I got to the first stop I had to change planes and again run across to the other side of the airport to make the next flight. Eventually I made made it but not as easily as I would have hoped. So here is my complaint, I understand the standards that airline has and their regulations that they have to stand by when it comes to dealing with customers. But I have to say that their ethical standards are dirt low when it come to actually caring about satisfied customers. The simple mix-up of who is who could have been resolved by simply comparing birth dates or the nature of the ticket (my father's was a round trip and mine was a one way) I see what the airline did to help and as far as regulations go, they stuck on them. But at the end of the day this where I stand; I was half an hour late for a graduation, I had to wait stand 2 hours waiting for a ticket that I already should have had, I had to run across airports in hopes that I might make 2 flights, and worst of all, I am now $300 in dept because my father refuses to refund me the price of the ticket that he had gifted to me (I won't be forceful about that either). I talked with the airline and they did not care in the least bit. I was honestly not expecting a refund. I was expecting something, anything, to help me out. I know that some airlines will play a free movie of pass out free snacks or entrees when the flight is delayed as a declaration of good ethical manners. lol! I would have been happy with a bag of chips sent to my door to make me feel better, but I can see that ethics are far below these people. I am a business major, but even a little kid would know that avoiding good ethics is not a good thing.
