I received an email from the Mileage Plus Reward Program, listing all the nifty things one can buy with points - - I have 49,000 points, and I wanted to purchase a GPS system for 42,000 points. I kept getting the message that I was not eligible to use my points!?!?!?!
I called, and was told that I could not use my points to purchase from the Rewards program unless I applied for their credit card. I don't need another credit card, if there was payment to be made to purchase the GPS system I would use my American Express. I was told that they weren't telling me to apply for their credit card but if I wanted to use my points I had to also have their credit card. I was also told that without applying for their credit card I was only eligible to purchase a magazine subscription with their points.
