Default watch out for United airlines website

Before I start let me say yes I should have checked better. I went online to book our flights for a cruise and on the website I selected Houston, Tx and two choices pop up International and Hobby I selected Hobby since it is almost an hour closer to Galveston. Not knowing that United did not fly out of Hobby at that time, but I have checked for airfare with other airlines the same way and if they do not service that airport then you get a message saying that there are no flights that meet your criteria easy enough. United airlines site however if you click on Houston hobby airport defaults you to Houston Intercontinental an hour north of Houston Hobby so even though your telling them you want to goto a certain airport they decide to tell you they have flights that meet your needs, but instead send you to the wrong airport and oh by the way sorry we screwed with you and you did not read what came up on the screen and you can't have a refund. I am going to look further into this when I get back home because seems like misrepresentation to me and if I have to get a lawyer involved then I will it may just be that they have some legal disclaimer that gets them out of it, but I will have to see. Never going to fly united again though either way especially when we arrive at the airport and our baggage is damaged we witness my sons stroller being thrown through the baggage flap to where it came to rest on the floor with a united employee telling us "oh well there is your stroller" and when we get to the gate it took a united employee 25 minutes to connect the jetway to the aircraft after the fasten seatbelt sign was extinguised and the aircraft door was opened do they not train their employees or what.

I also cruised out of Galveston and flew into Houston international. United was actually the cheapest. I put in hobby(hou) to see if they flew into/out of that airport, and yes it gives you the option, but when you hit continue to check the prices it shows right there, before you purchase IAH. should they have HOU in the system? i dont think so. kind of stupid. but it shows in bold IAH. The drive from IAH to HOU was actually only about 30 minutes without traffic.

As far as the jetbridge comment...not all the time is it the employees fault. we landed in ATL the other day from leipzig germany and the jetbridge moved but then stopped...something was wrong with it. and knowing from experience....its not as easy as you may think. there are parts on the aircraft, that if you damage it, say bye bye to your airline career and a VERY VERY LOOOOOONG delay

Yes as I stated it does tell you international and not hobby, but when most people book online and are looking at multiple airlines when you request to fly out of a certain city all the other airlines tell you if they fly out of that airport or not. Elderly people may not catch it and then when they get to their destination they become disorientated because they selected one thing and end up somewhere else.

Why not look at a 3rd party site to see who actualy flies into an particular airport you are looking to fly into. You may be shocked to see that your particular airline of choise does not fly there. Next time try a low cost option like Southwest, JetBlue etc...... As far as the jetbridges go, they are complex pieces of machinery that are controled by computers, and a joystick. I operate them Monday through Friday, and yes there are times that they stop short of the aircraft, or will just not start at all, requiring the services of local airport mechanics who may be clear of the other side of the field.

The downside to making purchases on the internet is that you are entirely responsible for what you buy. You can't blame mistakes on anyone else. "They shouldn't have shown me that option"... "It should have done X,Y, and/or Z"...."the website was too confusing". I don't know how many times I was waiting to check in for a flight and someone said to an airline agent "YOU made a mistake" when the majority of them were internet bookings.

Completely agree about the downside of buying online. Customers NEED to verify the tickets immediately after they get the confirmation email. If there are any mistakes (no matter who's made them), they can then be rectified immediately.

This said, I think there is a glitch on the United website. I tried 2 searches - one from MDW (Midway-Chicago) and the other from HOU (Hobby), neither of them, United not fly from. Interesting to see that while searching from MDW, it says no flights are available, but when searching from HOU, it defaults to IAH. They should show flights from nearby airports ONLY if that option is checked. In this case, I did not check (tick) that option.

OP - Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this. You are typically given 24 hours to rectify any mistakes. Since this was not done, nothing much can be done about it now.
