Cool Failure to notify of cancellation, to honor commitments

On attempting to print boarding pass for #2444 LAX-DFW the night before the flight, I discovered my booking had been changed to #144 LAX-IAD. On telephoning the airline, I discovered the original flight had been cancelled and I had been rebooked. I understand the airline need to change flights occasionally, but I thought it was policy to NOTIFY CUSTOMERS of flight changes. I know my cell number was available as I had received a txt prior to original boarding on June 21. I know my email is on file. Neither were used; I discovered the change.
On calling re: change, my associate was ASSURED by AA agent that we would be reimbursed for our travel expenses from IAD to BWI where my car was parked, some 60 miles to be travelled at close to midnight. I appreciate the 5000 bonus miles awarded for this inconvenience--both the added time and the failure to notify. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND REFERRING to the cost of our ground transportation as 'out of pocket expense' and the refusal to reimburse my associate. It was NOT an out of pocket expense, it was a mandatory part of the travel necessitated by the cancelling of our original flight. It is the AA employee who lied to us if there will be no reimbursing for this ground travel.

At this point, I regret having booked the travel with AA. Despite having a number of frequent flier miles, I am doubt I will ever fly with them again. Certainly I will tell everyone I contact this story.
