We were traveling from New Orleans to Houston to Newark to Tel Aviv on Feb 14th, Valetine's day. Travel began with 6 AM flight to IAH. Upon arriving at the airport, we were informed that the Houston Newark flight was canceled so we were standby on an earlier flight in Houston. That standby flight had plenty of room on it.
So, what did United do? They canceled the Newark to Tel Aviv portion of my trip - gave away my first class tickets ! Never told me. And rebooked me 2 days later out of Newark - which we found out once we arrived in Newark - when United emailed me the new itinerary.
I had bought two tickets for over $8K because my medical condition - spine - does not allow me to travel overseas in long flights in a cramped seat.
I was never so poorly treated by any airlines - no one was watching out for us, the uninformed fliers. United should refund that portion of my trip . I will not be putting them first on my list for international travel again.
I know people say that all airlines have these problems and everyone has a story to tell. I can tell you we have had such challenges with US Airways and they worked their tails off to help right the ship.
