Default No miles to American Advantage on Etihad flights

I booked MSY-HYD round-trip in business class on Etihad website for me. This was an Etihad ticket and all the flights including domestic AA flights were coded with Etihad flight numbers. I added my American Advantage frequent flier number when I booked the flights.

I also booked HYD-ORD round-trip in business class in Etihad website for my mother. This was an Etihad ticket and all fights were Etihad operated flights and all in business class. I added my mother’s American Advantage frequent flier number when I booked the flights.

I completed my entire round-trip on March 19th. My mother completed her outbound HYD-AUH-ORD portion of the itinerary on March 19th.

More than a month after completion of travel, no AA miles have been credited for 3 of the 4 Etihad flights for me. I did not receive mileage credit for ORD-AUH, AUH-HYD, and AUH-ORD. American Airlines said Etihad does not allow them to give mileage credit for flights between USA and Abu Dhabi and vice versa in business class. They said I did not receive miles for AUH-HYD Etihad flight EY274 because the booking class was Z. When I contacted Etihad, I should have received miles for Z class (mind you, this is business class, not discounted, and booked on Etihad website) and I should contact AA. Well, Etihad says to contact AA and AA tells me to contact Etihad.

For my mother who also completed travel in business class on March 19th, as of April 25th, no miles have been posted to her AA account for HYD-AUH and AUH-ORD. She also flew in business class, and this business class ticket was booked on Etihad website.

So, for those of you hoping to get frequent flier on one of the US airlines while flying on Etihad business class ticket, forget it. Etihad does not give frequent flier miles for flights between USA and Abu Dhabi (these are 14-15 hr flights) in business class. You see zero miles in most cases. Etihad has the worst possible alliance with other international airlines.

Default No frequent flyer miles posted yet

As suggested by the Etihad representative here, I sent all requested information via private mail. I contacted Etihad several times. Etihad says contact American Airlines. AA says Etihad is notorious for not awarding frequent flyer miles and that I should keep contacting Etihad. Etihad has not bothered to respond to subsequent queries.

Here is what passengers should know. Etihad is not a member of a recognised airline alliance. Etihad asks you to add your frequent flyer numbers of American Airlines or other airlines it touts as partners, but will not award any miles even for international business class travel with non-discounted fares. Etihad does not award any miles for travel between US and Abu Dhabi.

The Etihad representative who replies to complaints on this forum pretends like he is providing customer service. He or she asks you send all details. However, you will not receive any response from Etihad.

Forget about ever receiving any frequent flyer miles for business class travel on Etihad. They should at least be honest and state clearly that they never award frequent flyer miles. They deceive customers with false promises and offers.

Default Miles not credited promptly

I have similar problem. Have flown more than 2 weeks ago on Air Berlin/Etihad (TXL-AUH-MEL) business class. No miles yet. Have sent boarding passes etc. Since Etihad Guest became a separate identity the service has deteriorated. Should employ more staff to credit miles promptly. Had same issue last year...

Dear Pin,

Thank you for contacting us.

In order to looking into your issue, can you please PM us your booking reference and Etihad Guest number by PM so we can assist you further.

This may take an extra time to credit the miles as partner airlines involved.

Thank you for your understanding. *JS

Smile Miles credited

Dear JS and other readers,
I have contacted different "departments" of Etihad Airways and Etihad Guest with emails and sent copy to CEO. All miles and bonuses have been credited today. Persistency works. Could be ok next time.
Kind regards...

It is a shame that passengers have to make extraordinary efforts via contacting numerous departments at Etihad Airways including the CEO to have miles credited. It seems the general policy of Etihad is to first deny mileage and only offer to a few that are extraordinarily persistent in their complaints. We are two passengers who flew in international business in March. We are yet to receive any mileage for our travels despite sending all pertinent information to the Etihad representative here and Etihad feedback, and sending scanned copies of boarding passes and electronic tickets to both Etihad and American. I suspect that less than 10% of passengers receive mileage because most people do not have the time to be persistent.

Collect all feedback and then ignore?!!!

I sent all travel information via private mail to you.

I contacted Etihad feedback.

I called Etihad over the phone.

I contacted American Airlines via email.

I called American via phone.

I sent electronic ticket, scanned boarding passes, and other travel information to American Airlines.

I sent electronic ticket, scanned boarding passes, and other travel information to Etihad.

American Airlines Etihad does not award miles for business class flights between US destinations and Abu Dhabi.

Miles also have not been posted for travel between Abu Dhabi and HYD.
