On Easter Sunday !
My son and I were flying Delta at LaGuardia, N.Y. To Detroit, this past Easter Sunday. My boarding pass is scanned and I'm 2 steps away from the tunnel leading to the plane. A Delta employee grabs my carry on and says my bag is going to Nashville, the final destination, since my bag is too big. I had used this same bag hundreds of times as a carry on without any problems. I said " I'm not going to Nasville, I'm getting off in Detroit." I tried putting some clothes in my sons bag since it was smaller. After thirty seconds he says " times up, now all three bags are going to Nashville ". Mine, my sons carry on and my sons personal. I said " I'm not getting on this flight". He grabs the scanned boarding passes out of our hands and says " these are non refundable". I took my son and our bags, walked to Avis , and drove 13 hours to East Lanaing Muchigan , so my son can tour Michigan State on Monday . It was 9:30 am and we got to our hotel in east Lansing at 10:30 pm. You can't make this stuff up. I called American Express and they have a disputes department. After I told my story to the woman in disputes she says " you know, I was just going to book a flight myself on Delta, but after listening to your story, I'm not. I'm taking the charges for the tickets off your bill, and I'm writing to Delta asking for a reasonable explanation of this situation. " Less than a week later I received an e mail from Delta that I will be refunded in full". As long as I live, I will never fly a Delta plane ever again. The irony is, my girlfriends nephew married the chief lobbyists daughter of Delta in D.C. This past year, and we were guests at the wedding. If I die out of New York, Delta will not be allowed to transport my body back to New York.
