On the 22st of January 2017 me and my family were scheduled to fly with Peruvian Airlines flight P90231 from Arequipa International Airport to Lima (4 people in total)
The flight was scheduled to leave at 8.00 am and the flight duration would be 1,5 hours. So scheduled arrival time would be 9.30, more than 10 hours before our next flight with BA from Lima to Londen with BA that would leave at 19:25. There were 4 flights from Arequipa to Lima that day. Three of them being within the timeframe we had to connect to our London flight However ALL flights were cancelled by Peruvian blaming the weather. The weather however was not at all bad, there was a slight fog, nothing that should have prevented flights to and from a modern airport. (Arequipa is the second larges city in Peru and the airport is an International Airport). However it turns out that the Arequipa airport DOES NOT have RADAR installed which means that just a little fog prevents airplanes from landing. Although there is a statement on the ticket saying: PERUVIAN ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR LOSSES, DAMAGES, MODIFICATIONS OR THE FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE TIME SCHEDULED ROUTES MAY CAUSE, AS LONG AS THESE ARE CAUSED BY OPERATIONAL AND CLIMATIC FACTORS OR NONE-SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE We believe PERUVIAN should have warned us of the situation at AREQUIPA airport stating clearly that the airport LACKED modern landing systems which makes it impossible to land even with a little fog. If we would have known this in advance we would not have gone through Arequipa. Failing to inform us of this fact has cost us some 2000 $. We hold Peruvian Airlines liable for these extra cost and would like to know what the procedure is to get our cost reimbursed. Thanks for your help |
