Default Choose Delta If You Want a Major Buzz Kill to a Great Vacation

What should have been a 7 hour trip home took 36 instead. It was filled with 3 cancelled flights, a night of no sleep at the airport and no luggage upon finally returning home to JFK.

I had to leave the airport without my luggage at 10pm on a Monday evening. I asked for a phone number so that I could resolve the situation on my 2 hour drive home, so that I could get on the road. Like many of us - I have a job I'm expected to be at and was gearing up for a major presentation.

My luggage arrived to JFK on Tuesday and I tried to arrange its delivery back to me. I spoke numerous times to baggage information where I met Crystal, April and Marcia who were all 100% useless. The only thing they were allowed to say is "You have 5 days to pick it up before it gets sent back to Atlanta." My schedule did not allow for pick up within this time frame so I searched for other options. Delivering it back to me, to my great surprise, was out of the question. I was told I could not get it delivered COD. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that they do not allow customers to speak with supervisors. So in circles I went.

When I managed to arrange to have a friend pick up my luggage she was available on what would be the 6th day my luggage would be at JFK. When I called to have my bag held 1 extra day - I was told they could not guarantee it would be there. It would most likely have headed back to Atlanta. Here's where I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs - "NEVER EVER FLY ON DELTA!".

I am at a loss as to how to resolve this situation...

When did the airlines stop delivering luggage they mishandled?

They will not deliver baggage if it was checked in late, within 30 or 45 minutes of flight departure, depending on the airport.

Default I'd understand if that were the case but....

that's not how things went down. I was at the airport over 2 hours in advance of my original flight time. Then I was stuck at the Atlanta airport for almost 24 hours with multiple cancelled flights.

This part I have a bit of a hard time believing. When I was a stupidvisor, the agents were all too happy to hand off a problem to me. Most people don't like conflict so to get rid of it made them happy. Times could have changed and if this is the case, I wish I was still there cuz handling an escalating problem was a big part of a supervisor's job.

Sometimes luggage is not delivered to a passenger is it doesn't arrive with them. The old standby weather issues is one reason...if a passenger voluntarily takes an alternated flight and the luggage arrives on the flight tagged is another. But to not be able to have it delivered COD is one I've never heard of.

I was equally surprised to not be handed off to a supervisor (although I do like your title for that position better!). I asked numerous times, and each floor manager came back with the same canned answer that customers could not speak to supervisors. You may want to rethink leaving - it sounds like there's really not much for them to do these days...

Too bad...I worked for NWA and now they are basically one airline with DL. I could have had it made. Ah well.....not doing too badly now either. Wake up every morning in paradise and drink my coffee and see how bad it still is. Try to offer advice sometimes and point out glaring errors other times. It's more fun this way.
