Exclamation Here is a discount certificate... our apologies

Today I found a discount certificate that was'nt expired. Upon trying to redeem my $50 discount, NWA.com rejected my certificate... its not in their system. Am I going to bother calling customer service? NO WAY, NOT AGAIN! Northwest wins again!

NWA gives gift certificates to SHUT your face. This is the cheapest and fastest way to shut you up. They make these certificates expire asap, and they are filled with so much fine print terms and conditions, only a fraction actually are redeemed. Has anybody actually been able to use their "discount certificates"?

wp.....was it a computer generated voucher? If so, those are obviously "in the system" because the computer chose the number. Are you sure it wasn't expired or that you didn't type in the wrong number? Also, those can be redeemed over the phone or at the airport.

I am an agent for NW and I suspect this was a paper voucher. The only other thing I can think of is if the voucher was not issued to you as vouchers can only be used by the person they are issued to.

Exclamation Re: Cindy66

Yes Cindy the voucher was a preprinted paper voucher given to ME by a customer service agent. This all happened back in 2007. Water under the bridge. Although I admit, the next time I am given a certificate I will be tempted to turn it into confetti.

Damage caused by an angry passenger?

Exactly so! Try to avoid accepting vouchers at all costs.. they are hardly worth the paper they are written on.

Airline vouchers issued for customer service issues are typically valid for one year. If the voucher was issued back in 2007 then it's expired. You could try writing a letter to Northwest and enclosing the expired voucher. Tell them it sat at the bottom of a desk drawer or something. They might issue a new voucher. It's worth a try anyway.

There you go again Jim. I've had numerous vouchers issued to me by various airlines. Somehow I've been able to use them all without any issues. Tell me why, then do we see so many "complaints" about vouchers? I'll tell you why. People have either bought them on e-bay or craigslist and were scammed (not by the airline but by the person selling them) or they just don't understand how to use them. It's not rocket science. When Delta issues a voucher at the airport the voucher is accompanied by information on how to redeem it online, what the fees are for using a telephone agent, when it expires, etc. If people aren't taking the time to simply read through the information that's not the airline's fault either.

In about three weeks I'll be flying to New York to be with my family for the Thanksgiving holiday. I have two one way tickets on two different airlines both of which were paid for with vouchers. I then upgraded each ticket with miles. I'm flyin g first class both ways and not a dime out of my pocket was spent. And since I'm upgraded both ways I won't pay for bags either. Not a bad deal if you ask me and it was all because of vouchers and miles...two things that for some irrational reason you hate with a passion.

(And if any of the flights are oversold, I'll possibly be getting more vouchers to use another time!)
