Default Fine Print

We booked a RT flight from Belize to the US. We decided to stay longer.
After making arrangements to stay longer, we tried to reschedule our
Continental tickets to stay longer. However, we were told by a couple of
overly bureaucratic red-tape customer "care" agents that there was fine
print in some agreement that we supposedly "saw" when we booked the
flight. This was NOT reproduced in the ticket confirmation. So now we
have to book a one-way flight for a greater cost that the original round trip
ticket. Customer "care" simply quoted the rules and blamed us for not
reading the fine print. However, when we asked for a website detailing this
fine print, they said it was only available when we booked the flight. Now it
is secret fine print. After many, many flights with Continental over the years
and strong customer loyalty to them, we will now be forced to put them to

the very bottom of our choices for airlines.

Many airlines, not just continental have fare restrictions on their tickets, the cheaper the ticket you purchased the more restrictions you'll have. I know I recently purchased a ticket on them and it said non-refundable fare, change fees will apply. Maybe you might have overlooked it, I never even noticed it until I started working for the airline and would have people trying to change their tickets. It sucks but no matter where you go they all have restrictions.

How long was your trip extended? Most airline tickets are only good for one year from the date they were issued. If you were trying to extend beyond that point then you would be required to purchase a new ticket to return to Belize.

I think the big question Amaruuq is what did they tell you when you tried to make the change? Unless you bought a full fare ticket (I don't believe I have ever bought one of those, but know friends who have done so) You can usually re-book with no fee. What is this red tape they put you through? Did they explain to you the fare rules, and how much you would have to pay to change? If so it shouldn't have cost more to make the change than to buy a one way ticket. You didn't HAVE to book a ticket, you could have just paid the change fee. Unless of course there's something amiss?

Did anyone not appreciate the irony that the thread was entitled "Fine Print" and the OP chose to use a font so small that it was barely readable?

I think it was intentional...wasn't it?
