Default ticket pricing/cookies

Last September I bought three tickets to SJU from the US AIRWAYS for the amount of $2,000.00.
A few weeks ago with a lot of time on my hands, did a search and realized United could sell me three tickets to SJU, using the sma dates and arrival times for only $1,200.00, an $800.00 difference!
What I did:
a) wrote the CEO, got a CS cursory letter.
b) sent an email to the DOT, got a response telling me that the DOT does not mediate this type of situations, but that they were placing my complaint in their trecord book. Two hours later I received an email from US Airways, 'berating' me for going to the DOT. I told them that at least they could give me an upgrade. Got another 'tough luck' response from the airline.
I think that the airlines drop a cookie when you first check their sites for seat availability and fare comparison. The next time you show up for the real deal, they seem to have you by 'the cojones'. I think the Federal Government should take a more proactive role regarding AIRLINE PRICING. After all, the Airlines, use public facilities to conduct their business.

companies can charge whatever they want and the customers decide to buy or not to buy at those prices......kind of like supply and demand

yes it is a large price difference but there is nothing illegal about it, US Airways set a price which you accepted and United had a price that was lower

the government cant control what a private company charges unless you want a socialized government, and you cant exactly decide that in some industries this should or shouldn't happen, its got to be the same across the board

You purchased economy tickets (im guessing) for a total of 2000 and this is what you agreed to, they shouldnt upgrade you for comparing prices as if that was the case there would be very few economy seats as everyone would just say oh i purchased this but this airline is cheaper so upgrade us......and business class seats are more than $700 in most cases

now they shouldnt have berated or even told you that the DOT or anyone emailed them about this
