– BA632 – LHR to Athens on 6th November 2011. Firstly the menu was a beef pasta dish only – no other choice. As a Sikh my partner and I do not eat beef and for the 4 hours duration of the flight we were left hungry. The rudeness of the staff was amplied by the fact they just took the meatballs away and left us the rest of the tray. The rest of the tray consisted off a frozen really hard roll and a bean paste which was inedible. I raised this point with the senior steward who initially just told me that I should have pre-ordered my mean online. How does BA dare to think that everyone eats beef or that we should have been wise enough to have pre-ordered a meal without knowing what the menu was in advance. If this is the case why does not BA publish it’s menu on every flight in advance so that people can pre-order rather than go hungry and put with a lot of unhelpful and patronising comments from your staff. I am appalled at the way I was treated by BA and I consider it a religious insult that I am only offered beef and nothing else. I have also asked the head steward to record my formal complaint on board as I find BA’s level of service unacceptable and am quite happy to let the consumers programmes on TV know this. We were offered an upgrade to business class online and unfortunately my computer timed out before I could book and we asked at the airport whether we could still upgrade and were told by the Assistance desk that there were no business class seats left. When we got to the departure gates we asked another BA assistant who informed us that there were many seats which we could have bought. I am appalled that BA loses revenue by incompetent staff who could have made two people very happy and gained not inconsiderable extra revenue.
I wrote to BA and their customer realations told me to complain to the CAA . |

Ok...
Not allowing you to upgrade was petty and ridiculous and would annoy me too. However, ordering specialist meals in advance is so routine, it is astonishing that you do not know to do this, if you have travelled at all. There is no way an airline could carry the whole range of specialist meals, for religious or dietetic reasons without advance notice. It is unreasonable to expect this, and it is emphatically not an insult to your religion. If you want to complain to the CAA, you can do it here..... Send your complaint to: Passenger complaints Civil Aviation Authority CAA House 45-59 Kingsway London WC2B 6TE Or call 020 7240 6061. (although frankly, I would keep your powder dry for something a bit more substantial than this!!) |
