Spirit Airline LIED and tricked me!
I booked a flight with Spirit flying out of Dallas, TX and landing in Orlando, FL. I received a call about 2 weeks prior to me departure date telling me that my returning flight had overbooked and asking if I would be willing to change my return date. In exchange for my inconvenience I would receive a voucher for a free spirit flight and all I had to do was book before April 24, 2012. The options I was given was 1. I could leave from Orlando but I would have to wait 4 days (which I obviously couldn't do because of my responsibilities back home) or 2. I could leave the following morning IF I drive down to Ft. Lauderdale (which, for those who don't know, is a 3 1/2 hour drive south of Orlando). I agreed to option number 2 on the understanding that all I had to do to book my "free" flight with the voucher was book before April 24. Well as it turns out, there are many more restrictions on this voucher now that I am attempting to use. The airline refuses to let me use it for the dates I want (apparently they have LOTS of blackout date which I was not told of) so now I am essentially left screwed over by this airline. I had to come out of pocket $150 in order to rent a rental car to drive down Ft. Lauderdale and I am left uncompensated for my inconvenience even though I actually did the AIRLINE a favor my changing my flight. On top of the rental, I pay for gas which is extremely expensive now just to drive down there and fill the car back up when we got there. Had I just told the airline no I would not have spent as much money as I did...and now all the airline has to say is "I'm sorry for your inconvenience." This is completely unacceptable
