Hi,
im in the UK and looking for advice regarding an ongoing complaint I have with Delta Airlines. Long story, short(ish!) My wife, stepdaughter & myself were using Delta to fly from Miami-Atlanta-Manchester in September 2014. The flight arrived at ATL 15mins late, leaving us 30mins to get to our gate for MAN,which we did-the sign still stating BOARDING & people still walking down the ramp past check-in. We were refused to board the plane (I presume as our seats had been resold) yet a couple who had also been on the plane from MIA & arrived after us WERE allowed to board. I would like to think that as both planes were Delta, there would have been some communication between the two parties. Delta then told us that we would be put on a flight TWENTY FOUR HOURS LATER & put us up for the night in a hotel at ATL airport. When we asked if there would be any food vouchers we were told by Delta themselves that they had stopped issuing those in January, which didn't make any difference as the hotel didn't have a restaurant anyways! There is plenty more, but im sure you get the idea! Anyhow,i sent an email to their complaints/comments department on 23rd Sept & received an automated reply stating that they would endeavour to reply within 10 days. They didn't. I sent another email on 10th Oct & received the same automated response AND another email stating that they PROMISE to reply within 30 days. They didn't. I sent another email on 10th November & received the same original automated response-each email received had a different reference number. As stated,im hoping that someone can point me in the right direction regarding this matter. Many thanks! |

OP - did the couple (that arrived/landed on a later flight) reach the boarding gate before you did? Or, in other words, were they allowed to get on the flight to Manchester after you were not allowed to?
This is a critical factor since all airlines have a set time (x mins prior to departure time) when they shut the door. It really doesn't matter where you arrive from or what airline you flew to connect there if you arrive after the cut off time. If they allowed one but not the other (both, after the cut off time) then you have a valid argument. |

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I believe that the couple were on the same flight as us from Miami and they ABSOLUTELY arrived at the gate behind us as I distinctly remember them asking us what was going on after we had been refused boarding. Initially they too were refused boarding but then within 10 minutes were allowed on. I remember the female of the couple obviously looking very relieved to get on the flight yet she mouthed good luck to us as they went down the ramp. Obviously I don't know if this is worth persuing, hence me being on here, but I do find it odd that the airline company is still keeping me hanging rather than just telling me that nothing will come of this and to stop wasting mine and their time. Thanks again. |
