Angry I got burned by Continental, just like the passengers on flight 1404

On December 20, 2008, at 12:13 PM, I received notification from Continental Airlines, that my flight CO529, confirmation AGHMGV, due to leave Denver International Airport (DIA) at 6:25 PM for Newark International Airport, had been canceled. I was due to fly with my wife and son, to join our three daughters who had flown earlier, to New Jersey to spend Christmas with family. I was told that there were no flights until December 23. I immediately purchased three one way tickets on Frontier Airlines, at a cost of $1,705.50 for the three of us. While we were in flight to New Jersey, at approximately 7:00 PM, Continental called my phone to tell me that flight CO 529 was reinstated and it would leave around 10:30 PM on December 20, 2008. Of course I did not recieve that message until I landed in Newark, and that was too late to be of any use to us and it was past the scheduled departure time of the canceled flight.

Tonight, January 21, 2009, I called Continental airlines, to get them to pay for my Frontier tickets, and they refused, but did offer to refund the unused portion of my original ticket, which should amount to about $538.50, which leaves me out $1,167.00 for this event which was 100% the fault of Continental. Obviously someone was very hasty in canceling the flight in the first place. I hope that you can help me get Continental to pay for their error.

Ironically, my Frontier flight was right behind Continental Airlines flight 1404, which crashed and burned right in front of us at DIA. So I was not the only one to get burned by Continental Airlines that night.

First of all get your facts straight. (Not to mention that the title of your thread is the most insensitive I've seen to date!) There were NO burn injuries on the CO flight that crashed in Denver. The fact that all passengers and crew were evacuated with no loss of life was do to the training and experience of the crew. The fire that engulfed the right side of the plane only reached the cabin after all were evacuated.

Your flight was probably pre-canceled by CO (as was mine from Phoenix to Newark on the 20th) due to weather in the New York area. Unfortunately you probably won't be refunded the difference.

I too was told there were no confirmed seats available to EWR until Tuesday the 23rd but was able to make it out on standby the next day.

PHXFlyer,

The title was meant to be "incendiary." I got their attention and got a satisfactory resolution. I have asked the webmaster to take the post down. I will repost with a glowing testimonial.

Smile Continental Airlines earned my trust

This is a followup to my above complaint. Until I can get the webmaster to take down this complaint, this is an update.

My families Christmas trip was interrupted on December 20th 2008 flying from Denver to Newark. After some miscommunications with low level staff, I was finally able to talk to someone with authority, and the situation was resolved to my satisfaction. Although the incident still cost me money out of pocket, given the circumstances, the resolution was fair and appropriate. In a business with so many obstacles outside their control, like the weather, Continental has shown itself to be a fair and proactive provider in the airline industry.

Pros:
Continental has shown itself to be a fair and proactive provider in the airline industry.

Cons:
Low level staff should have better training and more discretion to resolve issues.

I'm glad your issue with Continental was resolved to your satisfaction. Had you not been so callous about the title of the thread I would have offered you some assistance as I have the personal e-mail of a VP at Continental who is very good at making things right with customers. I see you posted something similar on the US Air forum. Class act! What if you and/or your family were on one of those flights? I'm sure you would find a different way of wording your posts. It's not funny.
