Flying form LAX-DFW-DCA 07 May 2011,
Arrived at DCA, learned AA lost my bag, informed the counter and was given a lost baggage number. 10 days later was sent a claim questioner, filled it out and sent it back in. Waited 10 weeks, during this time consistently called and emailed asking for any type of update and was constantly told we do not give updates but after 10 weeks your claim will be finalized stop bothering us. 19 July, I recieved my claims check. I filed a claim for 920.00, and was given 230.00. The claim rep included a letter in my claim that stated the reason they only gave me about 25% of my claim, is that they would not cover any electronics, books, jewelry, buisness items, eye wear, etc. By electronics they ment my GPS, DVD's and keyless remote on my keys, my book, the jewerly was military rank insignia's and ship coins, eye wear was swimming googles. For the items that wear covered I'm not sure what the value they placed on these because they did not provide me with a itemized list. I called and tried to speak with a customer rep, was told the only way to dispute was to send a written letter to the claims department. I have written and sent in a letter to at least find out what value they placed upon my items. The claim check they sent my doesn't even cover the cost of military uniform items that was lost. The thing that irritates me the most is that I can't even talk to someone about this, every time I call their hotline they tell me to send in a written letter and that no one will discuss this issue with me on the phone. |

A simple flight from Santo Domingo to New Orleans. My bag didn't make it of course. I have accumulated about 27,000 miles in the last year. I have been
a very loyal customer. American Airlines doesn't seem to really give a damn. The items in my bag are not replaceable and medications are very temperature sensitive. Important documents and paperwork relative to my work impossible to replace. How hard can this be, the bag is either still in Santo Domingo or in the connection terminal at Miami. Two possibilities...look for it damnit! During the flight, a cup of bourbon was spilled on my lap, a drunk was taken off the plane in Miami, a young boy, maybe 8 years old travelled from the front of the plane to the back by climbing over seats in clear view of attendents....no one did anything. I am done, no more American Airlines. |
