Default Unannounced seating change....

While checking my itenerary for an upcoming flight home on 3-16-2009, I noticed that delta had changed mine and my wifes seating, to the point that we were not even in the same area. In 30+ years of flying, I never had any airline do that before. This is my first, and last trip with delta.
For the record, a complaint to delta received no response. A complaint to travelocity just resulted in travelocity blowing smoke up my you know what!

sooooo..because your seats changed you will never fly delta again?? good reason, i guess. get to the airport 2 hours early and use the easy check in kiosk and change your seats. they may have moved you for certain reasons. my flight on united was cancelled, had an economy plus seat and checked in at home. went to the airport, flight cancelled and put me in the back in economy, not economy plus, but thats not going to stop me from flying UA again. its a seat, you both will get there at the same time. i hope the rest of your flight goes smooth.

I can understand if there's a change in the type of plane used for the flight that seats may change, however, I will not just accept that a seat is a seat and should not be a problem for two not sitting together. I have no idea how long their trip was, but with my wife and I, we bring the laptop and watch a movie together...something we can't do if we're sitting in different parts of the plane. If it's a short hop to a connecting point, that's a different story. I can handle 30 minutes not sitting by my wife. Trust me, there are times I could handle more....LOL.

Corbel, your attitude to "a seat is a seat" is ridiculous. If you purchased an economy plus seat and United gave you an economy seat in the back, then they failed to deliver what you paid for. Why on earth would you accept that? You are a sap. If you went to a department store and paid for a Sony Flatscreen and they gave you a crappy Bush standard TV, would you be happy if they shrugged and said "a tv is a tv, it shows the same programmes". It is not at all surprising that you are an airline employee.. some how, airlines have trained their employees to have very low standards and to accept that these are acceptable. Why on earth should it be acceptable for an airline to be exempt from the normal laws of commerce. The airlines charge a specific fee for bags, but refuse to refund it when they fail to deliver the bags, and on and on. It is ridiculous and quite unbelieveable...

im not saying its ok for them to change their seats. and maybe i am a sap for what united did. but for one thing i paid for that ticket using my airmiles and booked myself on the economy plus seat, i changed my seat once again after i passed through security, and to me (when i travel) a seat is a seat, i dont care whether im in back or front aisle or window and if its a short flight the center seat (unless im traveling with somebody). they paid for a seat on delta airlines, seat 20A isn't anymore or less than seat 20B....they are still getting a seat that they paid for. they can call delta and try to change their seat or even get to the airport and change their seat or go online and change them. delta may have changed aircrafts for this flight and the only seats left were the ones they were given....i dont know for sure. do they have a right to be mad? sure, but to me when somebody says i'll never fly xyz carrier again (especially over seats) is....(i dont know the right word to use here).

Meaning what, Jim? That we are all a different type of human? That we were bred to be airline employees and that because we are/were, we are somehow less of a person? I don't get it. No need to get personal here. It's just a message board.

The facts are.
At the time I made the reservations, there were more empty seats than not.
It involves 2 flights, 1 short (boi to slc) and 1 long (slc to phl) There are no available seats left on the long flight, so that blows the ( check in early and change your seats) train of thought.
If they would have changed our seats together, or given a heads up, I may understand, at least a bit. From the action by delta, the only feeling I get from them is F U. We can do whatever we want, and you have no recourse. Hence my decision to say never again on delta.

Default Invasion of The Body Snatchers?

That we were bred to be airline employees

This line reminded me of that movie. Anyone remember it? So, all the "pod people" were, really, airline people destined to take-over the world? Is it safe for me to go to sleep on the plane??

OK folks, don't get mad! It's a joke!

I would not book a flight if my husband and I could not sit together. I would book with another airline. I have learned from experience that if a flight is changed, you must get on line and re-pick your seats, or else you will get what's left over when you get to the airport. They couldn't care less if you are sitting with the person you are traveling with, and make no effort to pick seats accordingly.

We recently had our flight changed, so I immediately re-picked the seats. Then a week before our vacation, I was double-checking as I always do, and I found our seats were no longer together. I called Delta, and the dumb woman on the other end kept telling me seat assignments were not guaranteed, and the airline would not change other passenger's seats to put us back together. She said they did not change seat assignments after they were selected. I reminded her that OUR seats had been changed after being selected. I had a confirmation of the seats we were assigned, with the date they were assigned. I then asked her when the seats were re-assigned to the people who were NOW sitting in those seats. She wouldn't tell me.

I'm glad I checked in advance, because I was actually able to get an e-mail to the CEO, and I received a phone call the next day....with 2 seats together....with our ORIGINAL seats.

I forgot to say, Corbel, that sitting in different places on a plane is NOT acceptable under many circumstances. If it is a business trip, or something, I probably wouldn't care. When it is a vacation you and your spouse have been planning for months, however, the whole idea is to get away and spend some relaxing time together. Many of our flights are very long ones, and I would much rather sit next to my loved one, than being sandwiched between two people I don't know. This is part of the vacation, and I planned it to be with my family. The airline should understand that, and a lot of the coplaints are because they don't care. As for getting to the airport 2 hours ahead to re-select seats, the plane in our case was full, and they would not get us seats together a full week ahead of time, until I e-mailed the CEO. This is only one of the many complaints I have against Delta, as the worst flight experiences I have ever had have been with them. I will never fly with them again.
