Default frequent flyers scam

I mostly fly with Continental, but received an attractive email from Air France claiming a triple-mile award from Houston to Paris. Could not resist.

I made the booking through internet. On the site, there was no specific mention of the miles rules except that the miles would be tripled. I called a few days before the first flight to select seats. I took the opportunity to ask the agent about awarded miles. "We do not know anything" was the answer, "but don't worry."

So I was very disappointed after the trip to find out that the real miles (around 6000 miles) had been DIVIVED first by 4 before being multiplied by
3. In other words the expected 36,000 miles were reduced to 8,000 miles.

This is extremely disappointing. I communicated with frequence plus email and 800 number. Pathetic response, especially with the supervisor who had no clue about the award system (still, his staff is taking flight bookings all the time).

Needless to say, I called Continental, apologize for taking Air france and guided them toward a campaign of transparency and honesty on frequent flyers miles. They seem to like the idea. Watch their space.
