Potential Allegiant trip insurance fraud
We are wondering if other people have experienced similar problems with Allegiant Airlines and their trip insurance.
Concerning Allegiant Airlines:
We made reservations on May 8, 2013 for three tickets from Mesa, AZ to Bismarck, ND. We purchased trip insurance because we knew we could possibly have a conflict with the dates of travel. On May 17th my wife found out she was not able to get off of work for the trip and called Allegiant to cancel the reservation. When she asked for a confirmation number for the cancellation of the tickets, the reservation agent informed her that all we would need to do was to use our original confirmation number for credit when we rebooked our flights. My wife did not have a comfort level regarding the information given and asked a second time about the confirmation number for the cancellation and was given them same information, “not to worry” and to just use the same confirmation number when she rebooked.
We just found out today when an email was sent regarding our flight that the trip had never been cancelled. When we called customer service the person talking to me did in fact agree that confirmation numbers for cancellations are not given. However, it has now become a situation of our word against theirs as the person my wife talked to never noted that she had called to cancel the flights. The notes indicated that my wife had called to ask if we had trip insurance which was completely inaccurate. My wife knew we had trip insurance and the purpose of the call had been to cancel the flights. We are still in dispute with Allegiant over this and are wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with Allegiant Airlines.
