Frankly this is your fault. It says very clearly (including on the Qantas site) that you need to apply as far in advance as possible for this very reason. Feb 27th is a Thursday (A friday in Australia, which needs to be involved when you fail the initial check) You allowed only a few days (two of which are non-business days) to process a visa to another country.

It's true Qantas will refund if your visa is denied, but it wasn't, as they stated. You failed to apply in a timely manner.
