Our flight from Hartford to Newark was canceled this morning. The explanation? The plane didn't show up! We woke up in the middle of the night and drove an hour to Hartford for a once in a lifetime family trip to Europe. The flight to Newark was canceled.....yes, I checked a few hours before leaving. We are now back home, waiting to try again. This time going from Hartford to Minneapolis to London! I've already lost the use of 2 hotel rooms in London for tonight and a day of vacation. What's the point of spending months planning to have it come down to this? Continental has totally blown it with me. The vouchers for future use do not even come close to compensating me for the loss.

There's only one flight from hartford to newark? Or were the remaining flights from hartford to newark full? Actually... going to their website, the 2:10 did have seats and that would have gotten you in at around 3:30 - 4pm (adjusting for air traffic) You could have taken a later flight and gotten to newark in time to catch your later flight as I'm aware most european flights leave in the pm. Actually you were going to London, they do have an one AM and i think 2 or 3 PM flights. Good luck with your new flight, I hope it goes better than this one has.

well, it would have nice if the employee had mentioned the 2pm flight. As you can imagine, I didn't have the entire Continental schedule memorized so wasn't able to ask. I also didn't happen to have a laptop in my hand to prompt her. She suggested we take a bus to Newark. It wasn't her fault and I'm not blaming her. I think Continental needs to recognize the many complaints and do a better job....maybe contact passengers when an incident has occurred and try to redirect us. We had plenty of time to drive to Boston.....I would have even driven to Newark had I known. I only needed another 90 minutes to make it happen and squandered 45 of that standing in line.

The gate agent who rebooked you should have mentioned that flight to you. That is, afterall, her job.

I know this does not help now, but in the future, try to avoid Newark. That airport is the most chronically delayed airport in the US - by a mile. Your aircraft which never showed up, was probably originating in Newark and was cancelled.

i travel out of newark all the time and fly through london to get to singapore, i am in singapore at the moment, there is a virgin atlantic flight that leaves at 8pm as well as 8am (codeshare with continental) so you could have caught that flight if you knew about it.

most of the flights to london are either around 8am in the morning or 8pm at night.....i think there is a continental around 10.....thats virgin atlantic, british airways and continental
