I think you are confusing the act of volunteering one's seat as opposed to an act of kindness. I've seen many a parents seperated from their kids (they don't book em that way, the flight was full and/or if they're on separate reservations that is what happens) and normally a person would give up their seat so that parent and child can sit together, i mean its just the right thing to do and should be done without looking for something to gain. Would you really wanna be sat next to a 2 year old who may cry for their parents or have the parents constantly over your shoulder so they can check if the kid is well fed, has drinks, maybe.... diaper change? really?
