Flight delayed due to crew staffing issues and a poor response by US Air
I was recently told by US Air that they are not responsible for problems that result in flight delays, even if they cause is one that they control! My flight from Flagstaff to Phoenix was delayed and I would miss my connection to Portland Oregon if I waited for the delayed flight to Phoenix. So, I called them (I didn't know I would miss my connection until I called them back) and decided I would have my sister drive me to Phoenix (6 hours round trip). I told them NOT to cancel my flight out of Phoenix as I would drive down. When I got there, my flight how had been cancelled and I was booked on the next available flight, 2 days later. After much haggling, I was eventually put back on my original flight to Portland.
For compensation, US Air offered my $75 on a future flight, not that I would fly them again. Their response to my complaint was that they weren't responsible to compensate me at all based on US carrier laws. They did refund me part, but not all of my ticket between Flagstaff and Portland.
Has anyone else had this type of problem with US Air and how did you deal with it?
It seems to me that an airline that messes up this badly shouldn't be able to just say, in effect, tough and get away with it!
