My two travel etiquette tips for holiday travel this year:
1. TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN? Spend a few extra dollars at the supermarket and buy extra foam ear plugs. When the tantrum starts, quietly apologize to those around you and pass out the foam earplugs. People will be very forgiving. 2. WANT TO RECLINE YOUR SEAT? It's OK, you can do it. But first, make eye contact with the person behind you for a moment to show them you know they're there and human like you. Then lean and recline very slowly. Post your etiquette tips here in this forum. |

Being very tall, I will help people with their carry on stuff into the overhead if they need assistance (there's enough back problems among airline staff).
I will politely tell the person in front of me that my knees are right against their seat back, and they will be unable to recline their seat. I DON'T yell at the counter/gate agents if something goes pear-shaped. It's not their fault the weather closed in, or the bird has a mechanical, or the res agent screwed up, or if I screwed up. I have my carry on stuff ready to go into the overhead, and under the seat immediately. If there's anything I need to have with me when I sit down, it's already out of my bag and in a pocket before boarding. |
