My husband arrived yesterday morning from Uruguay via Miami to Dallas on AA FLT 439. When he opened his luggage, a baggage handler (most probably in Miami), had obviously opened his luggage, pulled out a bottle of Don Pascual Cabernet Savignon, uncorked it, chuggalugged half of it, replaced the cork and stuck the bottle back in his bag
. Lucky for us, it did not leak all over his clothing!! I tried to contact AA. What a joke. I was given a FAX NUMBER by Baggage Claims. No one apparently cares that an employee is not only a thief but is drinking on the job as well. I did send off a letter to the fax number. How unusual. . . no one has contacted us! I don't care about the loss of the wine; I only care that they care about the behavior of their employees! Oh, and I poured out the rest of the wine; Lord only knows what they "added".

How do you know it was an employee and in Miami? That is a slanderous accusation to make especialy if you do not have that proof. |

Perhaps I don't fully understand the baggage handling process. When you arrive at a port of entry (Miami), we go thru the customs process and are in receipt of our bags. He checked thru his bags there because he pulled some clothing and the wine was intact. Then he handed off the bags again to a baggage handler because he was intransit. His plane touched down a few minutes before 10 a.m. in Dallas and I met him at the carousel at about 10:20. So, I don't see how a baggage handler in Dallas could have done it. Am I missing something? Who else could have done it??

Canaria - i think your anger should be diverted to AA. They should bear the responsibility of getting your luggage from point A to point B (which they didnt).
You should complain to AA and see what they say |

The airlines are committed to covering up the extent of the thieving and lying that goes on by their employees. There is a thread on here in which a passenger had to force the airline to expose a thief... the airline failed to call the police or investigate prior thefts...they simply fired the employee. However, the only reason the thief was caught was because the passenger insisted. Initially, they tried the standard 'cover up" Thieving and lying is endemic in the airines, but the consistent way in which they seek to deny responsibility, shift blame and cover it up is the bigger scandal.

I'm not surprised this happened. I traveled to Miami and a pair of sunglasses were stolen from my bag. I contacted TSA first, who confirmed box containing the sunglasses were in the bag. They checked their scans and they did not open the bag. The box was sandwiched between clothes and taped. I contacted American Airlines, was given the run around and eventually told that it was not a "covered" item. I was totally apalled. I called to speak with them regarding their decision... even sent a reply to their email, I was ignored. No response yet and I don't expect one. My expectations for them are below 0. I would like to thank American Airlines for charging me to "check" my bags.

Someday Jim, try offering some helpful comments instead of the nonstop slandering of airlines. You might have more credibility among the rational thinkers on here.
