no wheelchair or flight agent waiting at gate in atlanta
I arrived from St. Lucia into Altanta International Terminal on Delta flight 426 on 3/29. I asked flight attendent about wheelchair that was to be waiting for me. She said see agent at top of stairs. Escalator was broke so used elevator. There was no agent at the gate and one wheelchair with someelses name on it. Our gate was near end of terminal and it was a long walk to customs. First moving walkway worked. Second was broken. I was out of breathe half way down and going into insulin shock. I saw a Delta rep with wheelchairs getting on elevator and stopped her. Told her I was of need of wheelchair and I had ordered one upon arrival. She just started yelling to go back to gate to see travel agent and we said no agent at gate. She said there has to be one. Right. Then she told me to walk to customs. Never was concerned about my health or bothered to call someone.
The steeardesses came and they called customs to call for one. I still had to walk to custom. Some of passengers said that a woman had taken by wheelchair with my name on it.
Customs had me sit. There was line of woman in wheelchairs waiyting to go. The count was off. I told the guy I was to have a wheelchair that someone stole. He grabbed a girl that was going off duty to help me.
it was a half hour lost where i could have eaten for my diabetis. She was great and took great care getting me through and then stopped so I could get something to eat. We arrived at gate when it to board. But plane was broken so delayed, then moved to another terminal.
If though the wheelchair attendents work for another company, Delta is responsible to see that I had a chair. They were in violation of the disabilities Act. I have had probs with them before.
