On a flight this morning from Jackson to Memphis, I had the pleasure of sitting next to another traveler who not only used the seat she had purchased, but ALSO took it upon herself to USE HALF OF THE SEAT THAT I PAID FOR!!!
As she attempted to lug herself into the window seat (this plane only had a window and an aisle seat, no middle)...she then attempted to stretch the seatbelt out as far as it would go to place it around her girth, (it did not fit), I am standing in the aisle, the flight attendant is standing directly behind me, watching all of this....and (here's the good part), INSTEAD of ENFORCING DELTA'S POLICY that if a passenger does not fit into one single seat, they are required to purchase two seats....the flight attendant proceeds to offer this person an "extender"! CLEARLY seeing with her own two eyes that the amount of seat remaining for me to sit in the FULL seat that I PAID FULL PRICE for was now cut to half! (to make it worse, I turned and looked at her in shock when she offered the extender, and got a look in return that essentially said "sucks for you, I'm not enforcing any policy". I proceed to contact delta and file a complaint about policy enforcement and not being able to use the whole seat I had purchased, and was then informed that "if they don't pay for two seats, we can't enforce that policy because it would lead to LAW SUITS. I asked how he thought it would fare better when I proceeded to file a lawsuit for not having access to the seat I purchased, and for their staff not enforcing a written company policy because of fear of discriminating against the fat person who LIED in the first place and only PAID for ONE seat knowing well that she would not fit into a single seat, but banking on the fact that Delta employees are a bunch of cowards who will not enforce the policy anyways! Let's see, before this person ever walked down the jetway to force herself into her (and my) seats, she had to check a bag (that delta employee could have enforced the policy, give her boarding pass at the gate, THAT person could have enforced the policy, and then once on the plane, the Flight attendant could have enforced the policy) NONE of them did. Delta is worried about a discrimination lawsuit? They should be, only it's coming from the other side, those of us who actually pay for what we will use, and expect delta employees to enforce a written company policy to ensure that we receive it. UNDER 300 POUNDS in AZ. Get ready delta, here it comes, you cowards! |

Here is the way it works: The offended passenger MUST complain. Eye contact, facial expressions, complaints from family members do not count. A verbal complaint must be made by the offended passenger. Usually, an agent will be called.
Often a passenger does not want to create a scene and will just "suffer through it." This is not productive. Next time complain to the senior flight attendant as soon as you are aware of the problem and before the boarding door closes. |
