Couple weeks ago i bought 2 round trip tickets for my wife and myself. I got them on Expedia and all 4 flights are operated by Lufthansa. Since i blindly followed rules for entering names while booking, I entered my wife's name with a tick on top of the first letter of her name (warning said to enter exactly as stated in passport). The result was booked ticket with my wife's name without the first letter! So instead of Zeljka it was written Eljka!!! To cut the story short, after mailing both Expedia and Lufthansa I was forced to call Expedia (not Lufthansa) to try to solve the mystery of disappearing letter. I end up 1,5 hour on the telephone with US (I called from Croatia), waiting on hold while agents negotiate with Lufthansa's officers. They offered me to pay extra 100$ plus 345$ price difference to get the proper name on the e-ticket!!! The ticket alone was 650$, and now they wanted me to pay 445 more!!! To make this even more "funnier" the ticked price at the moment is not 345$ higher but only 160$!! So i have no idea why!! They let go those 100$ fee so i payed "only" 345$ just to finish the story... Who knows how much would they try to charge the day after... Tickets are not refundable so i had no choice... I could have taken my chance and get to airport on our fly out day with that e-ticket lacking the first letter, but that would really be pushing my luck... we don't travel to New York every day...
Expensive way to learn not to use our keyboard signs ŽĆČŠ ![]() You have any idea to whom i can file a complaint or ask for a refund? Tnx... Last edited by pere; May 15, 2012 at 3:53 AM. |

You should have gone to the airport without trying to change it. I say this because whenever I fly in Scandinavia, they write and print my tickets with a different letter in the middle of my last name as that is the way it is usually spelled in Scandinavia. I have told them about it several times and the answer is always, don't worry about it because it is only one letter off it does not make any difference. If it were more than one letter off, it would make a difference.

This was a fault of Expedia and I would have taken them to small claims court. Their website instructs you to enter the letters exactly as written in your passport. You did so, but their website does not recognise letters with accents. This is a fault of the website design and you should not have been held liable. If you look at the Accor hotels website, for example, they recognise this fault in their website design and advise people not to enter accents, even on their french website to eliminate this flaw. Expedia operate in an international setting and they need to adapt to this. I think you would have prevailed in small claims court if you have such a system in Croatia.
