10 years later Sandals Honeymoon ruined...
We planned a Sandals honeymoon 6 months in advance, and paid our airfare 5 months in advance.
On September 22 (flight #780 out of Chicago) was cancelled Thursday September 21 at 7 pm. It was really nice to get a recording stating so and not a live person. However, they were "kind enough" to put us on the next flight out, a day later, which meant we lost one night of our prepaid lodging. This was not good enough. We called and had our flight changed to Delta with only one half our difference. Pretty great we thought, right? Yeah, until we got to the airport and found out we had "reservations" on the Delta flight, but AA did not actually pay for our tickets...we also heard three other couples complaining of the same thing. We were redirected to the AA counter, stood in line, and they closed the Delta flight in the meantime. I must say, the AA man was superb in helping us arrange something in order to at least make it to St. Lucia. Unfortunately, after 1 1/2 hours, all he had was a Jet Blue flight 12 hours later. We ended up taking it so we didn't lose everything. We were given a few vouchers for airport food for our trouble, none of which we could use until we boarded, as all but one food place was beyond the boarding area. I am a smoker and refused to be trapped in the boarding area, so we couldn't use them. We also couldn't drive back home, as it is a 4 hour drive one way. After waiting all day, our flight out ended up being delayed over an hour. We gave up and decided to go home heartbroken. I have lupus and fibromyalgia and was beyond the breaking point of stress after this hellish day.
Luckily, we purchased traveler's insurance and are supposed to be getting a voucher for Sandals again. We are still waiting to see about reimbursement from AA.
I am not a frequent traveler. I work very hard for my money. This trip was once in a lifetime for me and I am very upset at AA. I will be trying to go to St. Lucia again, but with all the continuing problems with AA, will avoid them at all cost from now on.
