Default Delta customer service is horrible

Delta cancelled my flight 3859 on Dec 21st due to weather. They could not rebook me until the 24th!!! What was I going to do in Detroit for 3 days, no hotel vouchers no food allowance, nothing...so much for being a longtime loyal customer. They told me to rent a car and drive. I did. Of course I had no baggage since I checked my bag. So I am out the $25 baggage fee and the one way rental of $250 plus had to buy clothes. The delta agents in Traverse City when I went to check my for my luggage kept telling me to come back to airport different times to see if my luggage arrived. They would not deliver to my hotel!!! So i had to go back and forth to airport several times to check on my baggage. So finally two days later I got my bag. Trip back the baggage handlers damaged my luggage. the pulls on the handle to wheel it are bent beyond repair. I did not know I had to file a claim at the airport and I was exhausted anyway. I thought I could do that when I got home since my flight was delayed two hours coming back due to no crew. I used the twitter assist and no help, I emailed customer service, complaints, they keep telling me to go to this form or that form or this number or that phone number. What a runaround! I will NEVER fly Delta again and I always did before.

You will not get any kind of compensation for the weather. The most you might get is a refund of the 1 way segment not used.

I feel badly after reading about your experience. You are not being literal when you suggested that Delta should have paid for your hotel and meals, right? I think you were just saying that out of frustration. Of course, if you were driving and the highway was shut down, you’d never expect the maker of your vehicle to pay for your hotel and meals. The airline has no control. As much as I hate airlines, I would never expect that.

However, driving back and forth to the airport is complete nonsense. They should have contacted you when your luggage arrived. I hope you get a response from them, and have much better luck the next time you travel.
