Angry American Airlines won't put 2yr old next to parent, seat 5 rows back

American Airlines won't confirm seat for 2yr old next to parent:

I am sharing our experience because I want other people with small children to know the horrors of dealing with American Airlines.

We booked a flight several months ago on American Airlines and were not able at the time of booking to obtain a seat assignment. WE ARE TRAVELING WITHA 2 YR OLD. We were told to continue to call as the Dallas Airport is holding seats to Americans flight and has not released them yet. I have NEVER heard this before from another airline and refuse to believe the airport is holding these seats. They suggested we pay to upgrade our seats and we explained that we already paid for tickets and never got a seat. Why should we have to pay extra to upgrade.

We continued to call once a week to try to get seats and over and over were told the same thing. they assured us there were plenty of seats. Now here we are the day of the flight and they still won't release. My husband spoke to a supervisor named "Jim" who finally admitted that the flight is overbooked (they told us all along that there were plenty of available seats just the AIRPORT wouldn't release them).

They finally allowed us to confirm a seat for me and the 2yr old BUT would not give us seats together. I am in 16A and my 2 yr old is in 20B. AMERICAN would not put me and our 2yr old together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He said that they will ask for volunteers to move around to accommodate us but we won't know until boarding. So am I supposed to set my 2 yr old in his seat next to two complete strangers and hand then a sippy cup and snack cup and his little toy airplane and ask that they make sure he sip from his cup on takeoff and landing so his ears don't hurt? Will they change his diaper and hold his hand if he gets scared and sing his favorite song to him?

AMERICAN this is absolutely crazy and ridiculous that you cannot accommodate a customer that booked months ago to try to get passengers to pay extra money for a flight that they already paid for and instead of accommodating a family.

Please everyone continue to share our story do another family so this doesn't have to go they this.

They are morons. Get on the plane and advise the FA that you have ben seated separately from your chid and as the airline is forceably separating from your child, the child is nowin their charge and they are fully responsible for ensuring he is properly cared for, kept safe and comforted. See how long their attempts to blackmail you into paying for a seat lasts. They are Morons.

The separation that happens is the main reason why i do not fly with this company when i am with my kids.
