Default Family can't cancel due to Airforce deployement

My girlfriend can't cancel her flight without paying fees + only getting a credit she cant use due to a trip she booked to visit her brother in the military.

He just found out he is getting deployed and will not be able to be there during the time she planned to visit. The offered a 250$ fee to cancel and a 800$ credit for a single flight to be used within the year. She can't use the 800$ for anything in the near future and they refuse to help her in any other way.

Not sure if US Airways cares about our troops and their families.

First, the dollar sign comes BEFORE the number, not after.

Deployment in the military is ALWAYS possibility, and having been in the USAF myself, I can tell you there have been a large number of plans I had to dump because of an alert or TDY. It's a gamble one takes.

Since the sister is not the spouse, she doesn't fall into what is generally accepted as immediate family where refunds are considered.

I always loved the "the airline doesn't care about the military" excuse. It 99% of the time comes from a family member of the person in the military, not the person actually serving.

Now let's look at that statement. Should an airline break the rules for a military member and not a doctor? I mean, they both help save lives, so to speak. How about priests?? Expand it to nuns? Nurses? Policemen? Firemen? What about people that have to work every holiday? Give them an exemption too? Tell me where to stop.

Judge,

I may actually agree with you, but your argument is somewhat undermined by the fact that the airlines already provide favourable treatment to the military, for example by waiving luggage fees for some categories and change fees if they can show their orders.

I have served in the military and seen active duty in a war, but I don't think it entitles me to any special priviledges..
