disappointed in united mileage plus policy and lack of communication
I am a long time member of mileage plus with over 40k miles yet i recently discovered that all of my miles expired due to inactivity. As i moved out of the united states 4+ years ago, my travel needs changed. I had similar experiences with delta and american yet received several notices from both prior to expiration so i was able to act in time. From united, however, i had recievd no communication until just recently, after having contacted them with several complaints. They refuse however to be flexible or open to negotiation regarding the reinstating of my miles. They do of course invite me to pay to get them back. I find this totally unreasonable, especially as i was never given the chance to take action before they expired. I have called several times yet have gotten no where and i have also submitted several written complaints. In response to the complaints, i was told that they were not required to alert their members to upcoming expiration of miles or to even communicate with their members in general. I find this very disconcerting. I later read the same response in regards to someone elses complaint on a forum. I have now returned to living in the US but will not be using united due to the way they treat their customers. I am now receiving regular emails about how to better 'benefit' from the mileage plus program and from united in general. Yet i changed nothing on my avcount. Any assistance in this matter would be welcome.
