* On Friday, June 8, 2012, I was a passenger on US Air Flight 2304 from GREENVILLE, NC (PGV) 5:20 PM to CHARLOTTE, NC (CLT) 6:34 PM CRJ-200. Shortly after boarding and before I took my seat, I realized I did not have one of my rings and apparently had left it the TSA checkpoint. I took my carryon bag to my seat and went back to check on my jewelry.
When I reached the plane’s door, a male flight attendant stopped me and asked where I was going. I explained I wanted to return to the TSA checkpoint to look for my ring. The flight attendant pointed to the floor and said I could not get off because the plane was being prepared for takeoff. I asked the flight attendant what were my options. He told me I could get off the plane and take another one or I could sit down. Of course, I turned around and went back to my seat. At no time did the flight attendant express any empathy or speak to me in a respectful manner. He was extremely condescending and made me feel as if I had done something wrong by wanting to check on my misplaced jewelry. As the flight attendant did the final cabin check, he noticed my purse was not completely under my seat and asked me to properly secure it. I explained that I could not get it under the seat and could not find a place nearby in the overhead bin. In the same condescending tone, the flight attendant glared at me and said in the nastiest tone he could muster: “Oh, I guarantee you I WILL find a place.” Once again, I felt as though I had done something wrong and felt compelled to tell the flight attendant he had a bad attitude. The flight attendant continued to glare at me and said in a raised voice that he would have the plane turned around, so I could be thrown off for my bad attitude. He then told me that if I didn’t like his attitude, he could provide me with contact information for US Air’s complaint department. I told him I could find it myself. I really believed this guy was a loose cannon and did not engage him in any further dialogue. This was the first time as an adult when I have felt bullied. The rest of the ride was uneventful. During the flight, the attendant handed me a sheet of paper with his name (Todd D.) and contact information for US Air. I have attached the paper. He also told me the airport had been searched for my ring, and it was not found. As passengers exited the plane, the flight attendant thanked passengers. I did not acknowledge the attendant as I passed him, and he yelled thank you at me a few times. I continued to feel as though this was another bullying tactic and ignored him. |

Ok, im not going to say anything about the tone of the flight attendants voice, i wasnt there and just going by word of mouth. however, he was right. once you are off the plane, your off. they wont allow you back on i have seen numerous times people trying to get off the plane and being stoped. did you think they were going to delay a flight for you, just so you could go see if your ring was left back at security check point? Most people fly and we all hear over and over again, carry on luggage must be completly under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment. you just admitted yours was not. he appearantly said in a tone "i guarentee i will find a place for it" which he appearantly did. I actually cant believe he gave you his name with contact information on it...wow! he obviously knows or thinks he was in the right and did what he had to do to get the plane out on time. I dont see where they "bullying" comes in though. you cant get off the plane, you will delay the flight, you didnt have your stuffed properly stowed (he came with an attitude accoriding to you). honestly, he was doing his job with a bad attitude.

There is no excuse for a pissy attitude with a paying customer who apparently was distressed at losing personal belongings. I am respectful to those who are there to serve me and expect respect in return. I had no problem with being stopped and did not become berate or cop an attitude. I simply asked what were my options. This did not warrant the pissy response I received. I am sure this was not the first time a passenger has left something behind and wanted to try to retrieve it. When I was told I could leave or sit down, I quietly took my seat. No pissy attitude from me. When I was told my purse would have be be moved, I simply said I wasn't able to get it into a bin. No pissy attitude from me then either. Todd probably gave me his name and contact information because he might be accustomed to getting away with bullying and a pissy attitude. When I relayed the incident to another US Air employee, they were appalled and encouraged me to file a complaint. Agreed. You were not there.

A purse that wouldn't fit under the seat? Was it actually a purse or a backpack? I've never seen a purse that wouldn't go under the seat. If it truly was a purse, it must be one heck of a purse!

once your on a plane you can't get of that is federal regulations for security reasons. also if your purse wouldn't fit under the seat maybe it wasn't a purse? what kind of purse doesn't fit under the seat? maybe you were just upset you couldn't get off and check on your ring that you carelessly left at securtity and were being difficult?

I actually came by this thread completely by chance. But in case there is someone else like me who Googled "Todd D" and "US Airways", I just wanted to share my story too.
I actually do think that the OP was unreasonable in de-boarding to get her ring, since it really would hold up the flight (she should have gone to the checkpoint before boarding), but having met the Todd D in question, and having encountered his attitude, I have to sympathize with her a little bit. My story is posted in flyer talk forum (but I can't submit the link since this is my first post; will follow up with another post soon) Long story short, Todd D did not help me when I was having trouble with my luggage in the overhead bin (it was an express jet), so when I went out to the gate to get a tag for my luggage so that it could be left on the jet bridge, he refused to let me board, citing "security issues", when all of my belongings were left on board. I wish I had come across this thread before I filed a complaint with US Airways. But in case someone else sees this thread, the US Airways personnel assures me that he has been pulled aside for "a chat", and if he continues to behave this way, the only way you can correct his actions is by continuing to file complaints with their customer service. Good luck, and I really hope that you don't run into him! |
