Was flying out of San Francisco. Got to the gate on time. And then then United changed the gate. No notice. no announcement. no text. no email. So, I ended up missing the flight. United's supervisor says "Passenger fault". what can be done?

I assume since no announcements or any other methods of communication was used to notify of the gate change, all of the passengers missed the flight and it went out empty? Is it possible ons that you missed the announcement? Possibly listening to music, watching a movie, reading a book?
