Exclamation Mandatory Checked Baggage - Valuables

Most people know not to pack certain items like cash, electronics, medication and other such items in checked luggage. But what do you do when your carry on luggage containing these items is required to be gate checked as you stand at the aircraft door? This is done frequently as American Airlines (and others) encourage excess carry on baggage through their exorbitant baggage fees. Those of us in the second half of the boarding process are targeted with this mandatory checking process. Unfortunately, you don't have time to unpack these items from your carry on nor do you always have another means to carry them.

This happened to me and my valuables were taken from the bag. AA baggage office refused to accept the liability for the theft even though it was in their care, custody and control. I believe their limited liability would not hold up in court as they wait until the last second to force you to surrender your valuables and don't give you any other option other than to be left behind. What do you think?

Wink What I think

I think that AA (and all Airlines) are very good at covering their collective Butts, and there is allways a Butt.

I also think that taking an object into your companies care should have a leagle consequence when theft happens.

So no I don't think a Lawsuit for thousands would be viable.

But a small claims might be, just based on the fact AA probably won't show up and you would get a default judgment.

Even if the do show up they have to stand in front of the judge and explain why they shouldn't pay. And thats worth the cost too file and serve just for the fun of putting them on the spot.

Not sure I'd consider a post with this many basic English words misspelled as advice I'd be confident with.....
You have to have some proof of damages otherwise what's stopping people from claiming they had a few ounces of gold and a bag of cut diamonds in their bag.

Thumbs up Yay!

3rd post and I got trolled.

Because it took the release of the inexpensive spell checker for me to get my degree and the fact the one provided by this site won't run on my company supplied laptop means I get to do this:

Booga Booga

See the spell checker didn't complain.
