I want to share my recent experience with Delta.
I purchased tickets for my wife, my 9 year old son and I to spend Christmas with our families in Europe. When I purchased the tickets, I had to use 2 different credit cards. As a result, Delta put us on 2 separate reservations. Despite calling Delta and asking them to somehow link the 2 reservations in their systems, and despite assurances from the customer service representatives that the 2 codes were now linked in Delta's systems, the 2 reservations continued to be managed as separate and during the whole round trip, including internal flights in Europe, the seats assigned to the 3 of us where not next to each other. As I hold a Platinum card with Air France, which is recognized by Delta, I could book 2 passengers on comfort seats at no extra charge on both long haul flights from and to the US. For the 3rd passenger on the separate reservation #, who happened to be my 9 year old, I paid 258$ to upgrade to comfort seats on teh same flights, and I reserved the seat next to my wife and I on the outbound flight from Detroit to Amsterdam. At check in, we were informed that the aircraft was changed compared to what was originally planned, so the seating map was different. My wife and I were confirmed on comfort seats, but to my son was now assigned a seat that was not next to us, and was not in the Comfort seat area. I tried to complain and explain that they could not expect to have a 9 year old travel by himself, but the response was that the flight was overbooked and there was no way they could find another seating assignment, even if my wife and I were willing to give up our comfort seat assignment. Onboard the plane, despite offering the comfort seats to the passengers traveling next to my son they did not accept to switch, as one of them would have had to accept to travel in a middle seat. As a result, we had to fly separate, with my wife seating alone in a seat that could not be reclined that Delta insists calling a comfort seat hence refusing to refund the amount I paid for the upgrade. How can Delta insist that the seat 19D on that flight was a comfort seat when Comfort seats are clearly marked on all Delta flights? How can anyone call Comfort seat a seat with no extra legroom and that cannot be reclined? What disturbed me most, was the attitude of each single employee I talked to, as I only found people willing to bump me to the next customer service number or flight attendant. This is what led me to post this complaint, hoping to get somebody's attention. I will not become richer or poorer as a result of this event, I just think Delta Arlines is not being fair. Thanks, Carmelo Carrubba |
