I am a silver BA card member and travelled Miami to JFK and then onto London. I fell ill together with my son simultaneously immediately after an American Airlines flight. We were ill in the BA lounge and were not allowed to carry on our flight. It was food poisoning from the American Airlines flight and it was terrible. Now BA do9nt want to help me with a complaint against American Airlines even though they have the same ownership and it was a BA co share flight number I was travelling on. The treatment of me has been disgusting.
I just dont know what to do. My son and I only ate the meal on the AMerican flight. My wife ate something dsifferent and the reaction weas very quick. I was basically projectile volitting in the BA lounge and my son was following me with the same actions 30 minutes later. No help in leaving the airport, no help in finding a hotel, etc. I was completely disgusted at the behavior of the BA staff and the customer service I have suffered from. I have still not heard from American Airlines. What should I do, sue ?? It is obviously their issue as my son and I were both ill. |

So sorry about your difficulty but please do not get your basis for complaint wrong. It may well be that the American airlines flight is where you got your food poisoning but American and BA are NOT owned by the same people. They are most definitely two different companies. The only thing that they have in common is that they cooperate with each other and they have a code share agreement which means that they can sell tickets on each others flights, which they do mainly for everyones convenience when making flight connections. it does not signify that they have the same owners.
Good luck with your course of action against American airlines and not BA. I fear that you will waste a lot of time trying to get compensation out of BA. |

I've spent a lifetime in the food business so I know a thing or two about food safety. The odds of you getting food poisoning and having reactions in a 3 hour flight from MIA to JFK are virtually nil. Don't take my word for it, look it up, you'll find latency for food poisoning is not measured in hours but days more often than not. Its extremely rare for it to be fewer than 8 hours - again do your own research if you doubt me. The nastiest enterics will get you that sick but airline caterers follow extremely strict handling guidelines - I've toured a few flight kitchens in my time.
BA is not going to advocate for you as they are two separate entities that share a codeshare and alliance relationship for the purpose of sales and marketing, not liability. American is not going to compensate you because you have no proof that they got you sick, besides when you seek acknowledgement it implies culpability add to that you mentioned the word "sue" it looks like you are seeking damages, no company in their right mind will talk to you at that point. In other words now you don't exist. Food poisoning sucks but it happens - humans are fragile creatures and simply touching a bathroom door can get you that ill after your next meal. |
