My wife and I recently use Continental Airlines from Ft. Walton Beach, Fl to Tulsa, Ok. and back. We had brand new Samsonite luggage. On the return trip, one piece of luggage had spots all over it (can deal with) and the bottom was busted. When you pay the extra fee for luggage, you expect it to be handled a little better. I don't expect anything out of this complaint and even though all of the airlines may be the same, I will use another one on my next trip.
Sincerely, George Maulden |

One would expect baggage to be handled better, but unfortunately I've yet to see any airline do this. This is why I buy cheap luggage at Wal-Mart. The worse mistake you can make is to be one of the ones who have priority baggage handling. You can be sure it will be handled with anything BUT priority handling. See my post on Continental.

Damaged luggage isn't always "mistreated" by airline personnel. Bags are stacked one on top of another in the cargo hold, and poorly constructed bags can get crushed by the weight of baggage on top. Also, even the slightest turbulence can cause the bags on top to fall down off their stack, and get damaged. It's just a fact of air travel. If you have a good suitcase, the manufacture should warranty it if damaged.

I agree with you jim. Many times it is the airlines fault, because we know (or we can assume we know) just how our bags are treated when they're not within our site. Handle with care? Hmmmmm..... But I'm in the same boat as country as i buy my luggage cheap. But I wish this liquid ban is lifted so i can start bringing my wine in my carry on and not worry if it reaches someone else's lips.

Yeah, although wine is an interesting case. A sealed, unopened bottle of wine is a security risk unless you buy it at the airport, when it suddenly becomes safe. Of course, it is safe becuase the financial model of many airports depend on the sales. So much for security..
