I called Continental Airlines custumer service today to ask what Continental is doing to ensure safety of customers they put on Colgen Air flights since Colgan Air flight crashed in Buffalo and it was determined that Colgan used an unqualified pilots and historically did not follow ariline guidelines since Colgan had very friendly relations with govt regulators.
I was put on hold for about 20 minutes and then told that their documentation said that they expected Colgan to follow requirements. I said it was proven that they did not follow safety guidelines. They said they are waiting for the investigation to be completed in a few months. |

Like any company facing lawsuits (due to crash) I don't expect you would get to much of comments from them.

What did you expect by calling an agent who deals with reservations? As Leatherboy pointed out the final report is not out on the incident you cite and probably won't be until next year.
On second thought, why didn't you contact Colgan directly? It was their aircraft and their pilots. Here's the contact info: 10677 Aviation Lane, Manassas, VA 20110. Phone: 703-368-8880. Fax: 703-331-3116 If you have a problem with Colgan Air then I have a simple solution for you...don't fly them! But you had better choose wisely as there are no US domestic carriers that have had neither a loss of life and/or hull in an accident. Sure you could fly Qantas from New York to Los Angeles...via Sydney! Last edited by PHXFlyer; Jun 29, 2009 at 7:39 PM. |

Ultimately the issue of travel on commuter carriers becomes one of "you takes your chances." I don't see any meaningful changes coming in the way these carriers do business. Crew lounges are, probably still, being used as sleeping areas, and trans-continental "commutes," by cockpit crew, will continue to be allowed--to name two examples from the Buffalo wreck. The government could impose serious fines (and not later reduce them to nothing) or even lift a carrier's certification. Neither of those things are going to happen. In my case I COULD drive 14 hours to Salt Lake City, rather than hop a Beech 1900 to Denver. At the moment I'm taking my chances with the Beech 1900.

I made my comment, cause you hear on the news reports all the time "the company refuses comment due to pending legal action"
I have heard this many times for any company/industry facing lawsuits. the other favorite one mentioned on the news is, "so and so company does not make comments on pending lidigation" |

This is just a case of someone who wants has no idea what they are talking about rocking the boat.
First of all, you would need to direct you question to Colgan, not Continental. Colgan flys regionals for several airlines. Also they were correct in telling you that they would need to wait for the investigation to be complete. It's just like the news - they want the answer NOW. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. All Continental can do is examine the documentation provided to them from Colgan. That is the only way they would have to know that things are on the up and up. |
