Default Etihads greed and lack of compassion

I have a very large family and With the exception of myself and a couple of people all my family members fly etihad and are gold and silver members.
My brother who is also a member, flew to abudhabi for a meeting. He flew in early so that he spends time with my brother who resides in Qatar.
A couple of days before his meeting in abudhabi was due he was admired to a hospital diagnosed with subdural hemaetoma. Which is a bleeding on the outer layer of the brain and was putting pressure on his brain to the wxtent that he lost sense in his arm and leg. we were told it was too risky for him to fly back to Australia as he wouldn't make it all the way back and required can immediate surgery.
My mother who resides in Melbourne then had to leave the same day and booked a flight.

Two weeks on my brother's condition worsened and required another emergency surgery.
My mother was due back on the 21st of January, however due to this turn of events she wanted to change her flight back and leave it open. etihad then said that this was not possible.
When I requested for her flight to be extended to 27th of February, I was then told that there will be a penalty of some $240 AUD.
I then asked if I pay this amount can it then be left open? I was told it can be left open, however the price will not be guaranteed and will end up paying the price deference on the date.

We are now inclined to let this ticket expire and book my mother another ticket with Qatar airways.
I am certain no member of this family or anyone we know will be flying Etihad ever again.

It seems to me that Etihad is more concerned about making a couple of dollars rather than look after its customers.

Shame on you Etihad, shame
