Thumbs down Aegean Airlines flight attendant is rude and didnt have safety knowledge

I had a very unpleasant experience on my recent flight with Aegean Airlines, A3650 from ATH-FCO on 28th May 2013. One of the crew had a very bad attitude. First of all, she never smiled at all. She just drop the food in front of me in a very rude way without saying anything and when she asked to collect my snack box, she said it in a very rude tone of voice.

Second thing, its about pre landing check. I was using an earphone, with the music off. She told me to turn it off. I said yes. Of course, I am also a cabin crew, and also travel as a passenger, so I know what to do. It was already off when she told me. However, I still need to put the earphones on my ear for descent, because I had a discomfort ear during that flight. When she saw me still using the earphones, she told me again. I said its already off and she kept telling me in a rude way to turn it off. I was very upset and I even asked her to check by herself, but she refused to check and kept on asking me to put down my earphones. My earphones not even connected to the iPod, yet she still asked me to put it down. I know the rules and regulation of international airlines for take off-landing is to switch off the electronic devices only, not the earphones. Because earphones is not an electronic devices.

So yeah, I guess I would agree with most of people who said never fly with Aegean Airlines again, because in my opinion as a cabin crew, being rude to the passengers is a big no. And also, telling the wrong thing to the passenger is even worst. The crew obviously didn't have any knowledge. To classified which one is electronic devices and which one is not, is a very simple thing, and the crew didn't know that. Isnt that scary to fly an airline with the crew who doesnt know that? What about her safety knowledge? I doubt that she ever know how to evacuate from the aircraft.

There's no excuse for rudeness so I think you have a legitimate complaint to Aegean on that front. I recommend sending them a note about your experience on the attitude of the cabin crew.

However, I don't think you have a leg to stand on on the safety front. While there are base regulations that all airlines have to comply with, many airlines go above and beyond the bare minimum. For example, British Airways announces before landing that all personal headphones must be removed for take-off/landing, but the BA ones for the IFE can be used since any announcements override the IFE content.

Aegean may very well have a policy that headphones must be out/off of the ear for take-off and landing. A quick check of images of their safety card seems to confirm this. In that case, the flight attendant was correct to ask you to remove them regardless of whether or not they were attached to a device.

If you complain to Aegean about the rudeness, I would ask them to clarify their headphone policy, but leave out the accusations about the crew not being safe and not knowing how to evacuate an aircraft. That is a very strong accusation and one for which you have no basis.

As Cabin Crew shouldn't you know that you are supposed to obey the lawful command of the crew? If you don't agree with it, your remedy is to complain to the airline. It is not to disobey. Is some countries, a skynazi could well have had you arrested on arrival.

I think it is unreasonable for you to want to keen your earphones in. Think what would happen if all passengers adopt your attitude. Would the flight attendant have to go around and check everyone's iphone, ipad, ipod, android, etc.. to see if it was switched off. It is just not practical. Makes more sense to have a rule that all earphones have to be out for landing. If your ears hurt, many airlines have simple ear plugs you can use, or you can purchase them before the flight. That way the FA doesn't potentially have to check about 150 ipods to land.
