I flew on Egpytair connecting Delta about three months ago and they are actually both very bad airlines, egyptair by far the worst!! I have been trying to extend my stay in the states for the past two months. I have called about five different numbers trying to get a hold of a representative for egyptair, i have left several messages for them and no one has bothered to respond back to me!! I did not give up, i kept trying and finally got a hold of the ticket office supervisor which was very unprofessional from the beginning of our conversation. After talking with her for a while she told me that the total in fees that i would pay would be 220.00 for my extention of three months. She faxed over an autorization form stating that i have autorized egyptair to charge my account. Upon completing the form i faxed it over 1 day after recieving it. Then she calls me today and says that the prices have changed and she needs 117.00 now so total of 337.00. I told her that was not right she quoted me 220.00 and should stick to what she said, first she denied even talking to me, when i insisted and said well if u didn't talk to me then why is the e-mail you sent me in your name! Then she admitted to talking to me and quoting me the 220.00 and says, "well the prices have changed it is not my problem, you have an empty document! Prove i said that!" Long story short i feel cheated, i feel i am dealing with a dishonest airline, rude, untrained representatives, lacking people skills, let alone customer service skills!! I will NEVER ever deal with egyptair if it was the last airline i could take! I do not recommend anyone else taking it either!!

Your original ticket should have the amount of the change fee printed on it. The airlines, unfortunately, don't print this information clearly. One would think they are trying to hide this information from the customer. Because the amount is usually appears toward the lower right of your ticket, and is buried in a pile of airline codes. Look for something like "CHG337.00" which, of course, would indicate you should be charged $337.00 for changes. If you purchased your ticket in Egyptian currency, then the figure, after "CHG", should reflect the charge in Egyptian currency.
If the amount appearing on your ticket is LESS than $337.00, or its Egyptian equalivalent, you should try to find-out if there is an Egyptian counterpart to the US small claims court. You could probably sue Egypt Air here, but you would need to be in a city to which Egypt Air flies, and then you would have to be in the US long enough for your case to come-up. If you sued Egypt Air in Queens County, New York (the location of JFKAirport), your case would not come-up until well beyond the three months you have left to stay in the US. In theory, you can sue an airline in any state. However, if, for example, you sued Egypt Air here in my state of Wyoming, and you got a judgement, you probably would not have any assets to seize and liquidate if Egypt Air refused to pay. Often, the comfort and convenience of flying non-stop is not worth it if you are traveling with an airline that spends most of its time trying to figure-out how to rip-off, and otherwise make its customers miserable. This is particularly true of all, but one, of the US "legacy carriers" (American, Delta, Northwest, United, US Airways.) Continental is worth taking a chance with, but only in first class. Lufthansa can be every bit as rude as Egypt Air. However, Lufthansa also prides itself on being on-time and, in general, being accurate. So, if you can cut-through a nasty Prussian attitude you will find, at the bottom of it all, that Lufthansa is really a decent airline to deal with. From the USA, service to Cairo, on Lufthansa, is one-stop (a change of planes in Frankfurt.) Good luck! |

What ever you do, DO NOT EVEN THINK OF FLYING WITH EGYPT AIR. No only is their staff incompetent and illiterate, but they are extremely unprofessional.
I had reserved a departing flight for my mom and had a confirmation number that specifically stated "RESERVED AND GUARTENTEED". They claimed that her ticket was not registered in their system because my confirmation was electronic. WHAT TYPE OF B.S. STORY IS THAT? The ticket agent was a space cadet-The supervisor ignored us and was talking on his cell phone and using his Bluetooth as if he was trading stock-the manager was as arrogant and ignorant as they come. They claimed that she had to pay an extra $450.00. NOTHING SHORT FROM HIGHWAY ROBBERY. When I called their offices, the operated refused to give me the director’s name in their executive office; she placed me on terminal hold and later stopped answering the phone. I am thinking of starting a class action lawsuit against their ticket fraud operations and overbooking. Did I mention that half their staff doesn't understand ENGLISH?

My wife (DR Shamah El-Sayed)booked a ticket from Cairo to London on Egypt Air (09:15 AM Thursday 15th January 09. The flight manager or director made a big argument with her ending in preventing her travelling on the plane. He refused to allow her handbag which was in accordance with the airline regulation on the plane. He insisted on it to go on the scale and to pay 1200 E.P. She insisted on her wright to carry a handbag but he arrogantly refused to allow her to travel. She told him that she is ill and take medications for depression and gastro enteritis and bigged him to allow her to travel but he insisted on not alloweing her to travel on that journey. She was left in a critivcal condition, vomitting, diarhae, severe headache and in tears. He was so arrogant and merseless not taking in consideration that she is 60 year old, British Citizen of Egyptian origin and medically very ill. His behaviour was criticized by every one in the Airport and his colleages. I urge the company to investigate this serious matter urgently. This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable from a responsible manager who is supposed to give support to passangers and help resolve their problems and not to act in an irresponsible behaviour like this. This will only damage the companies reputation.

If your account, Dr Mohamed Abdel-All, is accurate, and given the nature of previous posts about EgyptAir I have no reason to believe otherwise, the treatment of your wife was inexcusable. Unfortunately you will probably never receive the apology you seek.
I couldn't help but notice the similarities between your wife's experience with EgyptAir and those of Jojo's mother which were posted upthread. It seems that both cases involved women traveling alone. Does it really suprise you that women traveling out of Egypt on a state-owned arline are treated this way? I am by no means condoning this treatment, just saying that it seems to be consistent. |
