Dangerous flight TP602
On 24 March, my wife and I travelled from Porto to Brussels aboard flight SN6408 operated by TAP Portugal (TP602), which departed at 0955. Once on board, as we waited for the remaining passengers, it became apparent that a significant number had hand luggage too large to fit in the overhead lockers. In addition, some of the cases were excessively heavy, with passengers having difficulty even attempting to lift them into the lockers. This situation caused a delay in passengers taking their seats and as a result, the aircraft pushed back before everyone was seated. In addition there were now several large pieces of luggage blocking the aisle. Interestingly, one of the passengers with an over-sized case had 4 additional pieces of hand luggage, none of them duty free goods.
As we approached the runway, the cabin staff eventually cleared the aisle and moved the luggage to the rear of the aircraft and stored it in a way that it impeded exit from the rear door. The aircraft then took off, but the safety briefing did not take place until approximately 15 minutes later.
