Default Stolen Cameras

My husband and I went to Costa Rica in July for our honeymoon. We had a flight from Charlotte, NC to Liberia, Costa Rica with a layover in Atlanta. Our layover in Atlanta was 4 hours long. We arrived in Costa Rica when scheduled, but unfortunately our luggage did not. Our luggage was delivered 24 hours later to our resort, only for us to find that our movie camera and digital camera had been stolen.

We filed a complaint/claim within our 7 days only to receive a letter 8 weeks later with Delta “”respectfully declining our request for payment.” My husband and I are both teachers, we can’t afford to run out and purchase new equipment that was given to us as gifts.

Please explain to me how they get away with this? Are their employees not held to the same standard that most employees are? Do their employees know that the company is not held liable, therefore giving them the green light to steal?

No airlines in the world is liable for bags.

The camera should have been with you ...in your carry on .

I would never put anything expensive in my check in bags because I know what can happen.

common sense.

Next time , you 'll know

plus do you even realize how many people touch your bag for one flight, on average i would say...... about 10-15. Should you hold all of them responsible? Fire all 15? That would fix the problem! Fire 15 people and hire 15 would be criminals off the streets!!

Of course they're not liable for bags, even if someone is forced to gate-check one and it gets lost! That would actually make them own up and admit they did something wrong!

I quote Stephaniezak:

"Please explain to me how they get away with this? Are their employees not held to the same standard that most employees are? Do their employees know that the company is not held liable, therefore giving them the green light to steal?"

I've heard others say those baggage people are on minimum wage, and/or immigrants who barely even speak English, and I've personally met several of the latter kind. I really don't understand how they get hired. Obviously background checks aren't done, or are disregarded.

They are liable for bags by IATA regulations, and this was an international flight. File a complaint with the DOT to get the ball rolling.

Default Common sense?

Is it really common sense NOT to pack any electronics in the checked luggage? This is the first time I have heard about it. I just had my camcorder stolen from my checked luggage in July. Of course the airlines and the airport should be responsible for their customers' items. Give me a break here. Just for your information, cameras are cheap nowadays to install. If there are cameras installed all over when the luggages are checked, it will be very easy to catch the thieves. The problem is, the airlines just don't care.

Disgusting to say the least.
