I tried to even go through Southwest for there"MILITARY" Fares which are a bunch of bull. They are more almost double a general fare. You would think after all our husbands(wives) have done that they would help us out but no they can't do that they want to double our tickets and its frustrating....

I want to thank your family for serving. I am not sure how Southwest operates but I am pretty sure other airlines book different tickets in classes. The military fare is not going to be the cheapest since people of government types may book tickets at the last minute and the airline is kind enough not to charge them the full price. In other words, the military fare can be for military persons on orders and the booking is usually done by a commanding officer. This ticket may be more expensive than a regular economy class but it usually allows for changes with minimal fees. That fare is also not the most expensive much like the full fare which also allows changes with minimal fees.

airhead is correct. The "military fare" is a contract fare between the Military and indiviual airlines service specific routes. This is not a discount fare for military personal and their families to use for personal travel, but for use when military personnel get travel orders. These fares are more flexible then general discounted fares and can be changed without penalties and refunded... thus the higher cost.

However, carriers are free to offered discounted fares to military personnel if they so desire.
