Never. Ever place jewlery or electronic items in your checked bags. In the carrier's contract of carriage, which you agree to when you purchase the ticket, carriers exclude from its baggage liability, jewlery, electronic and other valuable items. ALWAYS carry these items with you. If that is not an option, privaely ship them to your destination with a reputable shipping company where they can be insured.

you need to file a complaint with the TSA since they are the ones who check luggage. after you give the bag to the agent, the TSA screeners have the bag. but dont ever check anything valuable in your luggage.

Once the bag hits the conveyor belt, that's the last time any Alaska employee touches it. After that, it's a contract company called Menzies, or TSA.

Why in this wild world would you pack that stuff in your checked luggage? I would almost wonder if you had done it intentionally to file a claim. Great way to get something for non-functioning gear.

Oh gosh, never, never, never trust that valuables will reach the destination. I travel all the time, but get to drive mostly and forgot that I had put some earrings in a ring case. Thank goodness they were costume jewelry because they didn't make it. I was bummed that people can be so dishonest and untrustworthy, but more glad that I didn't have something in there more valuable. I think what really ticks me is the fact that when they do go through luggage they are so inconsiderate and don't care what they ruin.

Gromit801:

That is a little harsh. Some people actually don't know that the airlines exclude these items from their liability.

However, It does always amaze me to learn that some people check their iPods/MP3 players with their checked baggage. I tend to listen to mine during the flight.

It's not a question of what the airlines stated liabilities are. It's bloody common sense!

Like don't leave the keys in the ignition.
