Default Best Price Guarantee an exercise in fraud

I booked a flight on Delta.com for $152.00. I found it for $111.99 on Travelocity.com. I submitted for their guarantee and received an email back saying there was some difference.

Let me guess...in that forest of arcane rates, there was a difference in the letter code for the rate rules that no human can decipher.

All I know is that on Travelocity.com I found a fare in coach for less than the same coach seat on Delta.com. But my claim was denied.

I'm lodging a complaint with the state and federal authorities for fraud. It's completely false advertising. Delta may make a legalistic case, but a reasonable person would find the tickets to be the same.

We should sue Delta in a class action suit.

What genius thought up this great way to **** off their customers when the airlines are struggling to make any profit?!

Yea Delta does make you jump through some hurdles before they give you that "Best Fare Guarantee. I mean you have to be exact right down to the letter. Taken from the Delta site:

"The lower total fare found must be for exact same Delta flight, date, cabin, booking class (which begins with a letter such as L, U, T, B etc.) and flight time as the original itinerary purchased on the same day at delta.com, and the difference in total fare (including third party booking fees) must be equal to or greater than $10."

If you're good at hunting for these lower than booked fares then this is easy to do. However, for those uninitiated, after you find the lower fare you have to call the travel service to get the lettering code and such, plus their prices fluctuate so one minute its the lower fare and the next its equal to the fare you bought. To me its really too much work, complete waste of time. however there are those who are quite good at taking advantage of that best fare guarantee. You can try to see, butthe details are right there on the website. good luck.

The standard in courts is generally the "reasonable person" comparison. Take any soccer mom out there and see if she can be fooled/confused by it. Definitely the case here, and Delta knows it.

And the final key is that they are pissing off customers. Delta just came out of bankruptcy not long ago. Stupidity like theirs over this supposed "guarantee" is exactly what will put them right back there.

Hey...I still have lots of airline choices. Delta is rarely the least expensive. This is an easy choice to stop giving them money.

Nice job, Delta.

Sounds like you just like to complain because you're an a-hole. A ticket price of $150...take it and shut up.

Delta has a 24 hour "no questions asked" refund policy for tickets purchased on Delta.com. If you weren't satisfied by the response you got when you tried to invoke the "best price guarantee" why did you not then just request a refund from Delta and buy your ticket on Travelocity?

By the way. Third-party online booking websites such as Travelocity, CheapTickets, Orbitz, etc., sometimes have access to bulk or consolidator fares which are unpublished fares and therefore would not qualify for the "best price guarantee." In the future I would suggest using a fare search engine such as Kayak.com which will compare multiple websites for your itinerary and return the lowest price available.

Wow...talk about a customer service oriented attitude.

It is irrelevant what the price is. If you offer a guarantee, it's a guarantee. And the average person has neither the time nor the patience to play these "T fare" games. The "guarantee" is structured to be confusing and highly difficult to use, just like the Travelocity scam guarantee. It's a foil, and people know it.

The airlines and services that jerk their customers around with any "guarantee" that is anything other than straight-forward and easy will continue to lose market share because it shows they think we are fools and not worthy of respect..

Thanks, PHXFlyer. That is exactly what I did.

In the end, Delta not only ****** me off, but they earned even less on the flight. Had I found a lower cost elsewhere, they would have lost my business on that flight entirely. And now you can bet that I'll be disinclined to fly Delta when there are similar alternatives. They've taken customer service out of their "pros" repertoire and shoved themselves into competing on price alone. Never a good place to put a business.

Nice job, Delta.

People don't want guarantees filled with legalistic restrictions. They want simple and reliable. Delta has proven themselves neither and will pay the price for it.

Please keep it clean and don't make it personal, folks.

Default Price Changes

I bought tickets to Europe on July 8,2012 for my wife and I. The cost was $2313 for the 2 of us.

On July 19 I checked the same flights. Much to my surprise the cost was now 1694 a reduction of $619.

I called Delta and was told that that price was wrong. I said it's on my computer screen. She checked and confirmed the price. She said it would cost $400 to change the tickets and I would save $40.

I told her it was a rip off. I am use to good service from Southwest.

I will think twice about using Delta in the future or wait longer before making my reservation. Very bad customer service.
