Default Seat allocation - general disatisfaction

I recently flew Aircanada from Toronto to LosAngeles My travelling companion and I arrived at the airport about four hours before scheduled departure, you would expect that it might have been possible to allocate adjoining seats to two senior citizens.

We were informed that if we had wanted to reserve our seating there was a rather hefty charge about $40 a seat so we had to take two seats in the center of the row on the opposite side of the aisle. The seats are extremely close together and it was quite a feat for me to get into a middle seat.

We phoned the LA desk long before our departure date and arranged to have two adjoining seats on the aisle but somehow Aircanada came through with their usual efficiency and stuck us in the middle section . As we were not together at the checkin we were unmaware of the switch until it was too late. The Cabin crew were really wonderful and found us two other seats.

Now that they have stopped serving 'meals' on the flights they sell snacks, has nobody ever given some thought to the fact that tuna smells?
Not very pleasant for your seatmates.
